Broken Glass

Synopsis

Arthur Miller’s “Broken Glass” makes a triumphant return to a London stage this year, with a run at the Tricycle Theatre followed by a transfer to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre. It is sure to be an opportunity for those with theatre tickets to witness an acclaimed and well known piece of work from one of the most famous American playwrights of the 20th century.

Anthony Sher and Tara Fitzgerald play the central roles in the production; they are a New York couple in the 1930s who are deeply affected by the events of Kristallnacht in Nazi Germany. Philip and Sylvia are a Jewish couple and Sylvia in particular is troubled by the reports, eventually leading her to see a therapist (Stanley Townsend). But it is not just the events in Europe that are uncovered by the psychiatrist, there is also a light cast on their relationship.

The three central characters in the production are in safe hands with Sher, Fitzgerald and Townsend, three actors that have enjoyed long career s on the stage and the screen. Sher, for example, is known for his numerous appearances with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald has appeared in various West End productions like “The Misanthrope” at the Comedy Theatre, in addition to other shows across the United Kingdom.

London theatre Audiences can catch “Broken Glass” at the Vaudeville Theatre from Friday 16th September 2011 (with previews from Wednesday 14th September 2011) to Saturday 10th December 2011. This follows a run at the Tricycle Theatre in the summer.
