Cool Hand Luke
Aldwych Theatre
Synopsis
Like many shows in the West End, “Cool Hand Luke” has its origins both as a novel and as a hit movie and so arrives at the Aldwych Theatre with an in-built audience ready to witness the action first hand. The movie was made in 1967 and featured Paul Newman in a lead role and when the show makes its way to the West End stage this part will be filled by Marc Warren, best known to audiences for his role in the hit television series “Hustle”. So expect there to be great demand for this show as it tells a classic story and introduces a new generation of audience members to some iconic characters.
“Cool Hand Luke” focuses on the cool and uncompromising Luke Jackson, a veteran of the Second World War and rebel of society. He finds himself incarcerated in a Florida prison and his conflicting attitude towards society transcends the prison walls, meaning that whilst he is seen as an idol with the other inmates he is looked at less favourably by prison bosses. But whilst they try to break him, he proves that this is going to be a difficult task.
Marc Warren will be instantly recognisable to those with theatre tickets that are familiar with the show “Hustle” as he portrayed the part of Danny Blue from series 1 to 4. He has also accumulated a wealth of further credits on British television, from “Life on Mars” to “State of Play”, whilst also appeared in US shows like “Band of Brothers”.
“Cool Hand Luke” will be seen by audiences at the Aldwych Theatre from Monday 3rd October 2011 (previews from Friday 23 September 2011) to Saturday 7th January 2012.
