The Ladykillers
Gielgud Theatre
Synopsis
Audiences will be flocking to the Gielgud Theatre this year, particularly when theatre tickets are available for the upcoming production of “The Ladykillers” – the latest adaptation of a popular movie and the latest opportunity to witness the work of the acclaimed Graham Linehan. The Irish writer is best known for penning various well known sitcoms that have hit our screens over the years, but will this time set his sights on the West End with a new version of the classic Ealing Comedy – employing the cast of Peter Capaldi, Ben Miller and James Fleet along the way.
“The Ladykillers” is, of course, the classic 1955 movie that saw the iconic cast of Alec Guinness, Cecil Parker, Peter Sellers and more team up as a band of thieves staying in the house of an old woman played by Katie Johnson. First they get her involved in their latest heist and then, when she discovers their plans and deception, attempt to kill her so that they can keep the money! It remains one of the best known British comedies and is certainly the best known work of the renowned Ealing Studios.
And London theatre crowds hoping for the same spark at the Gielgud Theatre will be in safe hands with Graham Linehan. The writer is best known for the classic sitcom “Father Ted” in the 1990s and in addition to following the show up with “Black Books” and “The IT Crowd” has also been involved in various well known comedies over the years, from “The Fast Show” to “Harry Enfield and Chums”.
Once audiences at the Liverpool Playhouse have “The Ladykillers”, those at the Gielgud Theatre will get their chance from November 2011.
