Synopsis
Those heading to the Arts Theatre this October will be in for a treat when they witness the new production of “The Killing of Sister George” as it is a revival of a classic play from the 1960s that looks at the real person behind a fictional character from the radio. Not only will audiences get to witness the work of Frank Marcus they will also have an opportunity to witness a piece of work that appeared on Broadway and was also adapted into a movie from Robert Aldrich.
Then there’s the cast. Audiences picking up theatre tickets to see “The Killing of Sister George” will witness the likes of Meera Syal and Belinda Lang. The former is well known for her appearances in various British television programmes, from “Goodness Gracious Me” to “The Kumars at No. 42”, plus a wealth of others. Even in the London theatre world she is recognisable, having recently appeared in “Shirley Valentine” at the Menier Chocolate Factory and Trafalgar Studios.
In “The Killing of Sister George” the focus is on the June Buckbridge, an actress who portrays the character of Sister George in a well known radio show. But whilst Sister George is a caring nurse that audiences have come to like, June is an alcoholic and sadistic woman who has an unhealthy and abusive relationship with her roommate. Then the is written out of the show and she comes face to face with the producer Mrs Mercy, who confronts her about her unexpected lifestyle.
The Arts Theatre also welcomes shows like “Park Avenue Cat” in 2011, with “The Killing of Sister George” running at the venue from Wednesday 5th October 2011 to Saturday 29th October 2011.
