Private Lives - Vaudeville Theatre

A star studded cast takes to the stage of the Vaudeville Theatre in 2010, presenting a play from the mind of legendary playwright Noël Coward. It is a compelling story that will be propelled by captivating performances from its cast and with the writing of Coward to hold it all together; it is likely to be a must-see event.

Amongst the cast is “Sex & the City” star Kim Cattrall, who performs alongside “Spooks” star Matthew Macfadyen, stage actor Simon Paisley Day and the RADA trained actress Lisa Dillon.

“Private Lives” is the name of the show, penned by Coward in the early 20th century and first witnessed by audiences in Edinburgh’s King’s Theatre and London’s Phoenix Theatre in 1930. It is a story about betrayal at the hands of a rekindled romance and will be appearing at the Vaudeville from March to May 2010.

Cattrall plays Amanda in the production, who has recently been married to Victor (Paisley Day). Meanwhile, Amanda’s ex husband Elliot (Macfadyen) has also remarried to Sybil (Dillon). The ex husband and wife have been separated for five years but fate seems set to bring them back together as they both find themselves honeymooning at the exact same hotel in Southern France. They are unaware of the coincidence until they come face to face across adjoining balconies and before long all thoughts of consequences and betrayal go out of the window as they cast aside the reasons for their divorce and rekindle their romance, indulging in a dangerous game of forbidden love.

Of all the cast members, the best known to audiences around the world must be Kim Cattrall, who is one of the regular cast members of the long running “Sex & the City”. Whilst the show finished many years ago, the story has continued with the 2008 movie and the upcoming sequel set for release in 2010. Cattrall portrays Samantha in the show, but she has also appeared in numerous movies over the years in a career that has spanned many decades, with credits such as “Police Academy” and “Big Trouble in Little China”. She has also appeared onstage in productions such as “Whose Life is it Anyway?” at the Donmar Warehouse and “Wild Honey” at the National Theatre.

English actor Matthew Macfadyen is best known for his role as Tom Quinn in BBC’s “Spooks”, though he has also appeared in the likes of “Ashes to Ashes” and “Criminal Justice II”. For the stage he has worked for the Royal Shakespeare Company in the likes of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “The School for Scandal”, with further appearances in the likes of “Henry IV” at the National Theatre and “The Pain and the Itch” at the Royal Court Theatre.

Meanwhile Paisley Day has appeared in the likes of “Entertaining Mr Sloane” at the Trafalgar Studios in 2009 and “The 39 Steps” at the Criterion Theatre in 2007, whilst Lisa Dillon’s credits include “When the Rain Stops Falling” at the Almeida Theatre in 2009 and “The Master Builder” at the Noël Coward Theatre.
